Our first ALPHA CASCADE - Be Ready!

Work

A good day of work, although I should probably have spent it testing. Instead you will be treated to a new feature of the new 3D Editing Mode which allows entities to be summoned, moved and deleted while in First Person mode. It's pretty cool but will obviously need some fine tuning as we build on this approach to level design.  I am happy with the first version of it, and I am looking forward to the feedback from the community on whether it's useful or not.  Apart from that, this evening will be about testing, uploading the alpha to all Gold pledgers and getting it all done before midnight.

Also proof read the next Reloaded Newsletter which is crammed with news and insights so I think you will like that!

Went for a short walk. I would have liked it to be longer but it's Alpha night and I need to get it out the door (and tested).  Hopefully it won't be a long one and then I can prepare myself for a relaxing weekend. Going up to a lake near a hill near here, which is a LONG trek but a great place when you get there. Taking some sardies and an egg or two. I am in training for a ski trip early Feb and need my legs to ensure five days of pistes!

  7. I finished testing the alpha but it was just before midnight when I started the twin uploads to the official FTP(s). It was an official decision to add more into the version on Friday, which I think was a bad move, but at least you will get MORE :) I'll stay up until the uploads are done then activate the link in your Product History. I am banking on the fact it's Friday somewhere in the universe!

  11. The Alpha crashed. Reloaded wont even load now. Receiving 2 errors 'can not find path tgc\dst' and 'runtime error 8003 - can not find path at line 14901'

    2. Did you ever find a way to fix this?

    3. It could not be reproduced at this end, so I assumed later versions corrected it. A full re-install would have been my recommendation, and then manually checking if the file exists in C:\Program Files (x86)\The Game Creators\FPS Creator Reloaded\Files\skybank

  12. Hi Lee,
If you are aiming at having Steam integration such as achievements and statistics with Reloaded, I've written a functional Steam plugin for DBPro. I'm planning to release it soon, and if you would like source code access, or would like more info, contact me via email. (This is The Zombie Killer from the forums)

    1. Thanks for the offer. We have created a basic version in the background, but we'll only know how effective it will be when we start integration. Getting some help on the achievements and stats functionality would be awesome. Please email rick@thegamecreators.com so he can have you as a contact when the time comes. Apparently achievements are all the rage these days ;)

  13. Looks great! :)
3D editing mode make things much easier and saves a lot of time!

    Some opinions:
    - The 3D editing mode should be implemented in editing mode. Much better with tool-icons than a bunch of short commands.
    - In 3D editing mode the +/- for changing brush size does not work for me. Nor does the entity browsing

  14. the entity browser only works if you have an entity you want to use in the side bar in normal edit mode, so place 1 of each item you want then go to ingame edit mode, now browse till what your after is shown. not the best way but it is alpha testing the ability to do so :)

    1. Eventually we will be integrating 'new entity' selection in the first person edit mode but not at the moment as it requires a new IDE that can work through the 3D world (instead of the old Windows MFC style window).

  15. Hi Lee,

How to change LOD distance in beta 0045? I was using lod1distance and lod2distance so far, but since 0045 it doesn't work.

    1. Remember to delete the BIN file when amending the FPE. You will not see your changes until you do that, and also make sure you separate the entity from the batching system by using the flag disablebatch=1

  16. I'm amazed, on an Ultrabook with HD3000 graphics, I'm getting 32fps plus with entities in scene :D

Have a good weekend Lee, mines now sorted :)

  17. Hi, I don't know if I'm the first person to report this, but the new update makes me sort of judder across the terain, rather than walk. The framerate is fine (about 30) but walking doesn't work properly.

    3. Yes I changed the physics update from a fixed time slice to a machine indie one. Seems it was the wrong decision :) I will change it back and solve the jump speed issue another way...

  18. I have been experiencing quite a few crashes - that being said I am using it so much more with this release. Loving it!

  19. Lee, I have to ask, why can't you offer support for FPE and LUA?

    2. Because it's complicated and difficult and requires maintaining two entire scripting languages with completely different syntaxes. None of the functions used in DBPro would be the same as they all would require different methods of doing the same things.

      Delete
    3. Having two scripting languages means needing two of everything in code, and twice as much material out there to support it all. Best to have a clean single solution for scripting, and let's face it, LUA is 1000% times better!

  20. Hello Lee, thank you very much for the good surprise :D i noticed a lot of new buildings in 1.0045.
they looks something really similar.. was it used some sort of tool for making buildings, maybe some experimental room blob editor? :D

    ReplyDelete

    1. I gave an artist the original building and asked him to create 20 variations on that theme. I think he did rather well. More buildings to follow, with some different textures this time - no firm dates though, you know what artists are like ;)

  21. I'm having a new major issues with this update. When i walk around the walking is very very jittery and unplayable. Ironically using the arrow keys it moves smoothly. Also even with frame rate at 59fps its still jittery when moving with W/A/D/S wasnt like that in the previous version :/
