Storms = Power Cuts = No Coding

Work

Wednesday afternoon saw fallen trees and powercuts. Thursday looked like we had full recovery, but come 7PM another powercut. It's back up now so I thought I would post a quick blog before it went again.  Got some good work done on speeding up the AI part of the engine and firmly focused on making sure some of the more aggressive FPM levels run at a cool 60fps on my machine. This should produce some nice performance improvements for everyone else and ensure we hit the mark when it comes to making user levels playable and fun.  I will report more when I can be sure my blog post does not get wiped out mid-type ;)

  1. When should we expect the "Welsh Weather Combative Diesel Generator" Kickstarter to begin?

  2. Still say you need a UPS so you can have time to finish up and shut the PC down before it runs out of battery ;) For blog posts you could use your laptop, if the weather persists as it is. No power cuts here, but I still found my drainpipe leaning nonchalantly against a tree earlier!
You could always get a wind generator :) Sounds as if you would get plenty cheap power where you are!

  4. I do have a UPS but it's connected to the critical systems like NAS drives and WiFi, and even then it's only an 18 minute window. If I plugged my PC in there, it would be a matter of seconds to drain it. I will look into the generator idea, it might give me a way to carry on coding despite the rest of Wales having no power :)

  5. Generator be a must in Wales. What are the prices like for house buying

  6. Pretty good prices at the moment, but the market is stumbling in the right direction so expect prices to rise :) All the generators I need are £2000 - ouch! I think I will start with a larger UPS, just for my PC and see if that helps..

  7. You should only need the UPS to keep it going for ~5 minutes. 18 minutes is ages! You only need just enough time to click save and shut down the computer.
